CORPORATE MANAGEMENT - Michael Allison & Gillian Somers (9:00-10:50am) Large-scale organisations in context - an examination of the importance of large-scale organisations and performance indicators. Organisation impact on stakeholder interests and possible conflicts between different stakeholder interests and related issues of ethical and social responsibility. Internal environment of large-scale organisations - investigation of key elements of the internal environment. Evaluation of different management styles and skills. Implications of ethical and socially responsible management of the internal environment. The operations management function - examination of the best and most responsible use of all the available resources for the production of quality goods and services in a competitive, global environment. MANAGING PEOPLE AND CHANGE - Michael Allison & Gillian Somers (11:10am-1:00pm) The human resource management function - human resources and the investigation of the employment cycle and employee relations. The management of change - ways in which change can be managed effectively in both theoretical and practical contexts. Various strategies to effectively manage change will be evaluated. This will be applied to examples of significant change management issues for large-scale organisations. Chemistry INDUSTRIAL CHEMISTRY - Julie Plymin (1:30-3:30pm) Energy profiles and how equilibrium law is applied to homogeneous equilibria. Temperature, concentration of reagents, pressure and catalysts on the position of equilibrium of a reaction and applying Le Chatelier's Principle. Factors affecting rate and equilibrium are applied to achieve the optimum reaction conditions in the industrial production of chemicals. Ammonia, ethane, sulfuric acid and nitric acid. Particular emphasis will be placed on question interpretation and answer presentation as a key component of examination preparation. Probable examination questions will be discussed. SUPPLYING AND USING ENERGY - Chris Dwyer (3:50-5:50pm) Evaluation of the extent of the reserves of different energy resources, how each resource is used and advantages and disadvantages of their continued use. Electrochemical series is reviewed and the application of Faraday's laws to solve problems involving quantitative calculations for electrolysis reactions is explored. He is the author of several text books including the VCE English text for Cambridge. He has also written for the AFL, Cricket Australia and the Royal Flying Doctors. Anna Cerreto. Anna is highly regarded in VCE English, having excelled in the subject and is currently undertaking studies in Media and Communications and Modern Languages. As a VCE High Achiever across six VCE subjects, Anna is noted for her command of the subject and the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. Paul Fegan. Paul is the Head of English at De La Salle College, Malvern and has taught senior English in several schools, including St. Michaels Grammar, where he was also head of Drama. Chris Pearson. Chris is the Head of English at Presentation College, Windsor and is an experienced teacher of senior English, Literature and Theatre Studies. Module 3 - GRAPHS AND RELATIONSHIPS - Geoff Wriedt The graphical representation and analysis of linear and non-linear relations as models for various practical contexts as well as graphical and algebraic approaches to solving equations and inequalities. Module 4 - BUSINESS RELATED MATHEMATICS - Jo Bradley The application of numerical computations and graphical techniques to the formulation and solution of various problems in business and financial contexts, including the solution of related equations. Module 5 - NETWORK AND DECISION MATHEMATICS - Mr. Geoff Wriedt The use of undirected and directed graphs (networks) to the modelling of situations involving the spatial representation of relationships and the optimization of various measures such as coverage, flow, time and allocation. Module 6 - MATRICES - Jo Bradley The matrix representation of discrete data in rectangular arrays, and the application of the matrix arithmetic to the analysis of problems in practical situations. Technology is to be used to carry out computations as applicable. Jo Bradley. Jo is the Senior Mathematics teacher and House Coordinator at Mentone Grammar School. She is the co-author of VCE Study on Mathematical Methods textbooks. She was an examiner of Mathematical Methods for 10 years, VET IT for 5 years and an assessor for VCAA for the past 20 years. He has also lectured at Caulfield Grammar in their Headstart program and has been an assessor for the VCAA for several years. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Health and Human Development AUSTRALIA'S HEALTH (9:00-10:30am) Understanding Australia's health - the burden of disease and the health of population groups in Australia will be explored. Key health measures in Australia will be compared with other developed countries and the biological, behavioural and social determinants of health as they contribute to variations in health status will be analysed. The NHPAs initiative will examined and analysed. Promoting health in Australia - different models of health and health promotion will be explored. This includes the roles and responsibilities of governments in addressing health needs and promoting health for all and the role of government and non-government organisations in providing programs and support for the promotion of healthy eating. GLOBAL HEALTH AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT (11:00-12:30pm) Global health and development - identify and analyse the similarities and differences in health status between people living in developing countries and Australians. Investigation of the role of the UN Millennium Development Goals in relation to achieving sustainable improvements in health status and human development. Promoting global health and human development - explore the role of international organisations in achieving sustainable improvements in health and human development. Strategies to promote health and sustainable development globally will be explored and Australia's contributions to international health programs and contributions to non-government organisations. INTERACTIONS OF LIGHT AND MATTER - Jill Crawford (2:00-3:00pm) Light has been described as a particle and as a wave. The electron has wave-like properties too. This has led to different ways of thinking, not only about light, but also about matter. These ideas will be explored using experimental evidence and conceptual models so that the development of the ideas can be followed alongside developments in technology.
